My husband and I would like to take our 2 children (age 5 years and 18 months) on a Scandinavian summer holiday. Ideally we'd like to spend about a week in a city and about a week in a more rural or coastal location. Can you recommend any itineraries?

Copenhagen would be a great suggestion for your summer holiday, with direct flights from Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester, or for a more relaxing journey with young children you can sail from Harwich to Esbjerg (approximately 18 hours crossing) followed by a 3 ½ hour drive to this beautiful city. Spend 6 nights in Copenhagen with plenty of time to visit the many attractions, including Tivoli Park, spectacular during the day and night, Zoo and aquarium, Castle, and the famous Little Mermaid, and also with time to take a cruise around the harbour. A very beautiful waterfront city with many historical sights, and a great variety of restaurants. If you were to take the flying option we suggest that you hire a car and drive to the ancient city of Roskilde, only one hour away, visiting Legoland en-route; Roskilde, an ancient city from the Viking age, is located on the island of Zealand, and is an ideal base for a two centre with Copenhagen, whose Cathedral is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the burial site of Danish monarchs and attracts many families during the summer months. It is also famous for it’s Viking museum. (Terry Adams, Haslemere Travel)
